Larry C. Shannon, 78, of Geneseo, passed away at his home Tuesday, September 21, 2010. Memorial services celebrating his life will be 7:00 pm Friday, September 24, 2010 at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Rev. Dr. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Private inurnment will be in the North Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation for Larry will be from 4 - 7 pm at the church, where Military Honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post #5083. Per his request cremation rites have been accorded. Vandemore Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church.
Larry was born on July 11, 1932 in Pierpont, SD the son of Clifford and Ruby (Wilson) Shannon. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy/Marines from 1953 – 1957 during the Korean Conflict. Larry was a graduate of Pierpont High School and later earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from South Dakota State University. He was united in marriage to Marian L. Sampson on September 15, 1953, in Pierpont, SD. Larry was a Pharmacist at Northside Rexall Drug Store, Geneseo for 30 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Shriners KABA, Geneseo Moose Lodge #990 and Stewart Masonic Lodge #92 AF & AM. Larry enjoyed taking his 1941 Cadillac to car shows.
Survivors include his wife Marian, a son and spouse Tim & Karen Shannon, Geneseo; two grandchildren Kayla Shannon, San Francisco, CA; Elise Wilson, Moline; one great granddaughter Nevaeh; a sister Jean Wood, Mandan, ND; and twin brother Jerry Shannon, Burlington, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Tammy, a son Terry, and a brother Jackie.
