On February 5, 1992, while fighting a building fire at the Indianapolis Athletic Club at 350 North Meridian Street, a flashover occurred killing both firefighters.
Corporal Gelenius was transported to the hospital were he later died. Private John Joseph Lorenzanok’s body was found later and pronounced dead at the scene. Several other firefighters were injured during the flashover.
