Civil War Union Brigadier General, US Congressman. Born in Washington, Pennsylvania, he was commissioned Colonel of the 2nd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served the Mexican War. At the out break of the Civil War, he was appointed Brigadier General of the 7th Division of the Union Army of the Ohio in November 1861 and served until he resigned in June 863, on account of ill health. In 1869, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-first and Forty-second Congresses, serving until 1873.
