Mrs. Joan Snouffer
Mrs. Joan E. Snouffer, 69, formerly of Woodbine, Maryland, died Saturday, January 7, 2006, at her home in Winfield, Kansas. She was the wife of the late Charles R. Snouffer who died September 15, 1999.
Born January 8, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Walter Miller and Reba Alberta Yewell Hill. She was raised and received her education in Baltimore. She later attended Howard Community College where she received her certified nurse's license.
She married her late husband Charles July 2, 1953. The couple made their home in Woodbine, Maryland. In the late 1950's the couple owned and operated Snuffy's Tavern until 1968 and they then owned and operated Snuffy's Pet Products until 1999. In March of 2004, Mrs. Snouffer moved to Winfield, Kansas, to be near family.
In her later years, Joan learned to fly, and traveled the world. She was also actively involved with the Iditarod races in Alaska, where she would spend one month each year, serving on the Iditarod committee. She was a member of the Church of the Open Bible in Lisbon, Maryland, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Mount Airy, and the Gold Star Post 191 American Legion in Mount Airy. Her hobbies included gardening, golf, knitting and handiwork.
Surviving her are three children, Charles R. Snouffer Jr. and his wife Brenda of McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania, George Snouffer and his wife Kelly of Winfield, Kansas, and Stephanie Putman and her husband Warren of Woodbine, Maryland; four grandchildren, Ben Snouffer of Mount Airy, Kyle Putman of Woodbine and Christian Snouffer and Kevin Snouffer, both of Winfield, Kansas; great-granddaughter, Haley Snouffer of Mount Airy; a brother, Walter Hill of Miami, Florida; and her former daughter-in-law Deborah Long of Mount Airy.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, January 12, at the Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 13, at the funeral home. The Rev. Marvin Patrick will officiate. Interment will be in Laytonsville Cemetery.
