Viola was born on Christmas Day, Dec 25, 1892. She was born to William Riley Reed and the former Mary Louise Hoffman.

Viola is the sister of,
Leona Reed born 1895,
Milo Clement Reed born 1901,
George Aubrey Reed born 1913.

In the 1920's their family moved from Illinois and re-setteled in Los Angeles, California.

Viola is a 1st cousin of my paternal grandmother, Frances Mulligan. Viola & Grandma Fran are both Great-granddaughters of the James Ritchey / Nelson Reed famlies, who were documented as early settlers of Illinois. Both Viola and Grandma Fran are Granddaughters of Margaret A. Ritchey and Nelson Reed.

Vi was very close to my dad & mom. She loved having the children come over. Vi was like a sister to my mother's mom (Rose Gresham), even though Vi was from dad's side of the family.

As a child growing up, I remember Vi as a gentle, sweet, kindly lady. I can still remember the smell of her lavender perfume. She was affectionate and loved to give the children hugs. Her house smelled like ginger cookies. To this day, when I smell ginger cookies, I think of Vi.

My Grandma Fran had MS and couldn't get out but Viola was there for us, when grandma couldn't. Vi had Parkinsons disease, in her later years. Being ill didn't stop her from traveling to my wedding.

Viola lived to be 4 months short of 95 years old. Aug. 14, 1987 Viola left this world and entered Heaven. She is much loved and dearly missed.

Vi, I look forward to seeing you again, when we are reunited in Heaven. Hugs and kisses!
