Died at 10:30 a.me. Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at the age of 81. She was the widow of Sammie H. Brown , owner of Young Fashions. She was born in St. Louis and moved to Baton Rouge in 1935, to attend LSU. She was deeply involved in the community through volunteerism. She served as president of the Sisterhood at B'nai Israel Synagogue. She was a founding member and past president of the Woman's Hospital Auxiliary and was active in the Girl Scouts. She served on the Council of American Women, dedicated to eliminating bigotry and racism in our community. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services at B'nai Israel Synagogue at noon Wednesday, conducted by Rabbi Barry Weinstein. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Brown Hanchey and son-in-law, Carl H. Hanchey, Lake Charles; a son and daughter-in-law, Randall Brown , M.D., and Deborah Chenevert Brown ; her five grandchildren, Lisa Hanchey, David Hancheyand wife Karen B. Hanchey, Ashley Brown , Allison Brown and Kimberly Brown ; and three great-grandchildren, Brian, Scott and Kristen Hanchey. Preceded in death by her parents, David Cruvant and Anna Rubin Cruvant; and her brother, Bernard Cruvant
