East Peoria, IL - Marie Matilda Alberssen, 70, of 18 Fondulac Court died at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Oct. 24, 1933, to Karl K. and Anna Augustine Kohlrus in Ellis, Kan., she married George Muehlich in 1952 in Ellis. He preceded her in death. She later married Ted Alberssen on June 25, 1971, in Peoria. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy (and Dwight) Leighty of Salem, Ore., and Christy (and Steve) Collier of Pekin; two sons, Jeff (and Shari) Muehlich of Tremont and Kent Muehlich of Kalamazoo, Mich.; three brothers, Pete (and Mary Margaret) Kohlrus of Junction City, Kan., John Kohlrus of Hays, Kan., and Robert (and Van) Kohlrus of Metamora; four sisters, Eleanor Cox of Estacada, Ore., Martha (and Morris) Franz of Washington, Aurelia (and Duane) Ketterman of San Antonio, Texas, and Regina "Jeannie" (and Tom) Tharp of Pekin; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one infant son, Michael, one great-granddaughter, four brothers and one sister.

She was a seventh- and eighth-grade English teacher at St. Thomas Grade School in Peoria for 15 years. She also was a real estate broker in East Peoria for seven years and worked at the Caterpillar Inc., Morton Plant for five years.

She was a former member of the Peoria Rose Society and was a member of an East Peoria Bridge Group.

She was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church in East Peoria, where she was involved in Bible study and prayer groups.

Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery.
