George and Grace possibly met about the time she pushed him into a mud puddle in front of his father's home at 17 Ingleside Avenue in Catonsville.
Grace had been born in Hagerstown, but came to Catonsville with her parents in 1916. She did not like Catonsville at first, and so she returned to Hagerstown. She probably stayed with a good friend of hers, or other Clark or Lapole family members. However, Grace then decided to return to Catonsville.
Grace's daughter, Bessie Virginia (Myers) Selway, remembers that her mother was a daredevil when Grace was young. Bessie recalls her mother telling about the time when Grace was riding a horse on the Lurman Estate, and she did not have the saddle on tight, so she slid underneath the horse.
