Mrs. Akins was born Aug. 17, 1934, in Spalding County. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jackie Bell Brown; brother, Otha (Red) Brown; sister, Jeanette Arnold; and brother, Johnny M. Brown. She retired from Anderson's Cafeteria.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Willis (Rocky) and Theresa Akins, Terrell Hugh (Poouchie) Akins, all of Griffin, Alma Sue and Jim Sanders of Locust Grove, James Edwin Akins of Griffin and Gregory Brian and Deanne Akins, also of Griffin; grandchildren, Joseph Akins, Kristine and Burt Kennedy, Pearl Sanders, Josh Akins and Jonathan Akins; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Akins; sisters, Evelyn Woodward, Lena McMichael, Marian Brown, Dottie Brown and Jackie Gibson; many nieces and nephews; and her extended family at Glencoe Trace Complex.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Sue Akins will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Gregory and Deanne Akins, 312 Whatley Road, Griffin. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Akins may be made to the American Cancer Society, 135 B Bradford Square, Fayetteville, GA 30215. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery no later than 1:45 p.m. Saturday.
