One of the oldest and earliest settlers of this township has been taken from the scenes so long familiar to him. Mr. Adams was born in Columbia county, Pennsylvania, Oct. 20, 1810. Was married to Mary Whan, Jan. 28, 1834. they came to Illinois in November, 1845, and settled in the vicinity where he always after lived. This was a wild place in those days, there being but few settlers within a radius of several miles. There were nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Adams, five of whom are still living. Those at home are Mrs. Mary Jane Adams, Miss Martha E., and Robert. Two daughters are in Iowa, Mrs. Haddash De Motte in Hamilton county and Mrs. Alice E. Huffman in Powsheik county. Mrs. Adams died in 1879. Mr. Adams had been in quite good health for one so advanced in years but about a week before his death neuralgia of the heart set in and he passed away Sunday, July 21st; at 4 o'clock p. m. The funeral occurred Tuesday at 10:30 at Farlow's Grove and was one of the largest ever seen in this vicinity. The services were conducted by Rev. Evans of the Cable Congregational church.
