Mary died on the trail approximately 30 miles west of Fort Kearny, Nebraska on the Platte River. According to the diary of Dr. Charles Ross Parke, "DREAMS TO DUST: A DIARY OF THE CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH, 1849-1850", he was called to treat Mary's father who was sick with dysentery on June 1, 1849. Dr. Parke noted Mr. Livermore had "buried his daughter this morning."
