Mrs. Benefield was born in McKenzie, Tennessee on April 3, 1933, the daughter of Elwyn and Mildred Sain Glass. Suzanne passed away Sunday August, 29, 2010 in Plano. She grew up in Jefferson, Texas where she became elementary school sweethearts with her future husband, Johnny Benefield, son of Allen and Thelma Benefield of Jefferson. Suzanne attended High School with her sister Mary Lou at the Maddox International Academy in Mexico City, Mexico. She obtained her Bachelor and Master Degrees from U.C.L.A. with a major in Spanish. She married Johnny Benefield from Jefferson on May 19, 1956. Johnny worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation as an Aeronautical Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama where they raised their three sons. After Johnny's death in 1977, Suzanne moved back to Jefferson to be with her family. All of her sons graduated from Texas A&M University. She taught at Jefferson Jr. High School and became a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and served the church in many ways. Suzanne served as the President of the Historical Society in Jefferson and owned one of the first bed and breakfasts in Jefferson, the William Clark House. Suzanne's greatest joy besides her family was her relationship with God through her Lord Jesus Christ. Until her final moments on this earth, she told of how Jesus Christ was her Savior and blessed countless lives through her selfless life in imitation of her Lord. Suzanne was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother and faithful witness of God's grace in Jesus. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Lou Glass.

She is survived by her sons Wesley and wife, Donna Benefield of Pearland, Texas; Douglas and wife, Renee Benefield of Charleston, South Carolina; and David and wife, Roxanne Benefield of Prosper, Texas; grandchildren, Paige, Nate, Jake, Haley, Zachary, Ben, John, Eva Suzanne, Brooke Suzanne, Cassie and John; and brother Bill and wife, Karen Gleason of Jefferson.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Benefield, Douglas Benefield, David Benefield, Tommy Benefield, Bill Gleason, Jake Benefield and Buckley Gleason.
