Catherine 'Kay' O. Campion, 92 ROCKFORD - Catherine "Kay" O. Campion, 92, of Rockford died at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, in her home with family by her side. Born March 22, 1918, in Blanchardville, Wis., the daughter of Charles and Louise C. Regez Deininger. Graduated from Monticello High School in 1935, attended the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater and graduated from Northern Illinois University. Married O'Neill F. Campion on June 4, 1941, in Monroe, Wis.; he died Jan. 20, 1991. She was a teacher in the Harlem School District for more than 20 years, retiring in 1979. Member of St. James Catholic Church. She was also a member of Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority and several bridge clubs. Kay enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and playing cards, but she was happiest whenever her family could be all together. Summer vacations at Lake Ripley and Star Lake and holiday gatherings were especially memorable. Survivors include her children, Thomas E. (Joan) Campion of Aurora, William (Beverly) Campion of Rockton, James (Barbara) Campion of Woodstock, Peggy (Thomas) Miller of Rockford and Peter (Rosemary) Campion of Rockford; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family. Also predeceased by her granddaughter, Sharon; her twin sister, Josephine, who died in childhood; sister, Florence Hanold; and brother, Earl Deininger. A memorial Mass of celebration at noon Thursday, Sept. 9, in St. James Catholic Church, with visitation from 11 to 11:45 a.m.; the Rev. Dean Russell will officiate. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Brooklyn, Wis. Memorial visitation also from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave.
