Christian William Theodore Lange, youngest son of Andrew and Sophie Lange, was born February 10, 1841, at Vippachedelhausen, near Weimer, Germany. He received secular and religious education at his birthplace. His occupation was that of weaver and farmer. On January 26, 1873, he was united in marriage to Miss Wilhelmine Haase. Three children, a daughter who died in infancy, and two sons, were born to this union. For religious and economic reasons he came to America, landing in New York in March, 1888. He later settled near Parr, Indiana, where he converted 80 acres of forest and swamp land into a prosperous farm. In 1963 Mr. Lange moved to this valley, settling on a farm two miles southwest of Westcliffe. His wife passed away on March 23, 1911. Five years later he was stricken with blindness and as the consequence of a fall he was almost helpless the past two years. Mr. Lange passed peacefully away on July 16, at 9:43 a.m., his death being attributed to the infirmities of advanced age, 90 years, 5 months and 6 days. He is survived by two sons, Gustave Lange of the valley and Rev. Carl Lange of Troy, Ill., two daughters-in-law, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was a member of the Lutheran church throughout his life and held the office of secretary of Hope Lutheran church here for many years. The funeral was held at the church here on Saturday last, the service being conducted by Rev. J. H. Hinck, the local minister, after which the remains were followed to the Lutheran cemetery where the last sad rites were witnessed.
