Joseph Chester Jacoby, age 82, of Melvin, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Eden, Texas, Dec. 4, 1928, to Frank and Lola Kruse Jacoby.

He graduated from Eden High School and attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Alaska. He kept close connections with all of his Army buddies.

He married Wilma Jane Burleson on May 16, 1959, in San Angelo. He married Linda Rodriguez on Nov. 25, 2001 in Eden. He was a lifetime farmer and rancher; he faithfully attended the Catholic church, St. Francis Xavier in Melvin and St. Patrick's in Brady.

Chester was an avid hunter and enjoyed many trips to Colorado with his children and hunting family. He served on the board of directors of McCulloch County Farm Bureau for many years.

Funeral Mass for Joseph Chester Jacoby will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brady with Father Hillary officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Melvin Cemetery in Melvin, Texas. The family received friends Tuesday with a rosary recited at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Parks, Jim Richards, John Frank Sorrell, Kenneth Smith, Henry Burleson, Earl Burleson, Jason Jacoby, Dylan Jacoby and Carl Keith.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Melvin; four children, Craig Jacoby and his wife, Elizabeth, and their daughter, Jessica Brook Jones of Haslet, Frank Jacoby of Brady, Willie Jacoby and his wife, Karen, of Ponder, Tina Biberdorf and her husband, Barret of Farmington, N.M.; four brothers, H.W. Jacoby and wife Eileen, Rector Jacoby and wife Alice, both of Melvin, Johnny Jacoby and wife Lona of Brady and Dan Jacoby of Eden; godson Dylan Jacoby; Linda's children, George Perez and wife Marcella and their children, Giselle and Augustine, of Melvin, Corinna Macias and husband Jesse and their children, Christian Luke Macias and Chloe Madison Macias of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews that lovingly referred to him as "Uncle Nut" because of his fun loving personality. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jane Burleson Jacoby; his parents; his sisters, Fae Jacoby Kohutek and Mae Jacoby Hoelscher; and numerous Army buddies.
