He was the son of William Ballowe and Mary Francis (Hawkins) Ballowe. Edgar had the following known siblings: James R. Ballowe 1856-

Robert Thomas Ballowe 1869-1939

In about 1806, Edgar married Rosa Lee Heinzler and they resided in Saline County, Missouri where Edgar was a farmer and a patrolman for the Slater City Police Dept.

Edgar Ballowe was a veteran of the Spanish American War of 1898.

They had four known daughters:
Grace Ballowe-Anderson 1907-
Lucille Ballowe-Dye 1909-
Emily F. Ballowe-DeGroot 1912-2008
Rosa Hildagard Ballowe 1918-1919

Edgar's wife, Rosa Lee, died 3 days after the birth of their youngest daughter.
