Gladys Waite Lawrence passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010. She was born in Springville, Utah, November 20, 1919, to Frank and Maude B. Waite. Frank was a pharmacist with a drug store and movie theater in Palisade, Colorado.
Gladys was working for Remington Steel, Utah, during World War II. She met her husband, Harold Timms Lawrence, when she took her watch in to be repaired, Harold was the Jeweler/Watch Maker. They were married in 1944. Gladys became the bookkeeper and sales clerk at their shop.
After the birth of their son, Harold F., they moved to Oakland, California, where he was the west coast regional manager for Time Service Inc. Here their daughter, Susan K., was born. They sprouted out buying apartment buildings; they later traded them for a restaurant/night club in Fresno, California, where their daughter Michelle B. was born. They eventually went back to jewelry and watch making in Santa Cruz, CA, where Debra L. was born.
They moved to Gilroy, CA, and then to Carmel, CA, where they had their business Casa de Tiempo before retiring and moving to St. George, Utah in 1986. She found great joy living here. Gladys had many wonderful friends with whom they loved to play cards, go to social events, and dine with. She served for many years as a worker in the St. George Temple.
She is survived by her children, Harold F. (Lynn) Lawrence, of Hollister, CA, Susan (Jerry) Leonard, of Gilroy, CA, Michelle (Don) Sherer, of Hurricane, and Debra (Daniel) Impens, of Fallon, NV; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Loretta W. (Ken) Wilson; and brother, William (Marsha) Waite, of Grand Junction, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Timms Lawrence; and her sister, Lory Shillak.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 4, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington Hills 4th Ward Chapel on Fort Pierce Dr. A visitation will take place prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 at the chapel.
Interment will follow at the St. George City Cemetery.
