Mary Susan Rogers was born at Mamoroneck, Westchester Co., New York, Sept. 10, 1819, and was married to Francis P. Lawrence May 10, 1840. They came to Peoria County in 1855, where they lived together until death removed the husband, on Feb. 13, 1889. Unto them were born six children – two sons, William C. and Francis H., of Princeville – and four daughters, Eleanor Harrison, of Princeville; Caroline M. Moffit, of Monica; Mary F. Beal, of Duncan, and Rachel S. Harrison of Dunlap – all of whom survive her and were present to minister to her last wants. She united with the Methodist church at the age of 14 and had been a faithful Christian for seventy years. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother. Death gradually came to her, and on Thursday morning, Dec. 3, at 8 o’clock, she passed quietly away, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 23 days.
The funeral services were held in the M. E. church on Saturday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. R.L. Vivian, and her body laid to rest in the Princeville Cemetery.
