W.J. B. Adams, 82, pioneer resident of Jasper County known all over East Texas as Uncle Doc died at his home in Jasper Tuesday morning after several days illness. Uncle Doc was born Dec. 9, 1844, in Thomasville, Ga. When he was 3 years old his parents moved to Texas. Fifty-nine years ago he married Miss Matilda Spurlock, who services, together with seven children. [November 24, 1926 Dallas Morning News (Dallas, TX)]

"Our town leaders simply took matters into their own hands, called a town meeting and we decided to build our own railroad! We called it THE JASPER SOUTHERN and went to work. It was early June of 1897. We got our selves a board of directors: W. J. B. (Dock) Adams, president; E. A. Fletcher, vice president; L. P. Scarborough, secretary; E. A. Seale, treasurer; W. W. Blake, chief engineer; A. B. (Ab) Stone, Dr. T. E. Stone, Abel Adams, K. B. (King) Seale, N. M. Hart, D. J. Law." (ref. The Jasper Journal by Nida A. Marshall 1993)
