OBIT: NORWICH [Page Co, IA] - "Charles Bolen LINGO, a notice of whose death appeared in Tuesday's SENTINEL, was born at Pugh, Belmont county, Ohio, August 4th, 1868, and died at Norwich May 6th, 1895. He was the son of Gideon and Naomi LINGO, people from Delaware and Virginia respectively and was the youngest of their thirteen children. He parents are both yet living in Belmont county, also two sisters. Besides these there is one sister in Michigan, a brother in northern California [George McClelland LINGO] and two brothers [John H. & Selkirk Samuel LINGO] and a sister [Emma Lingo CHESSHIRE] in this county. He received a common school education and attended for a time the Barnesville high school at Barnesville, Ohio, where he graduated in 1889 with the degree of Batchelor of Science. From there he came directly to Norwich and taught the Norwich school one year. After teaching at Beloit, Iowa, the next year he accepted the position of principal of the Essex schools and taught there one year, being re-employed for the next year, but failing health caused him to resign. As a teacher Mr. LINGO had but few equals. He had a wonderful memory and seemed to possess the tact of easily imparting this store house to his pupils. As a public speaker, while not making any pretensions at oratory, he had a splendid voice and his manner and delivery were such that he commanded the attention of his hearers and caused his words to have good effect. For several years he had been a faithful member of the Baptist church and when he was stricken had made partial preparation for the ministry. On November 26, 1891, he married Miss Carrie MAYNARD, of Beloit, Iowa. By this union one child, Charles Jay, has been born. Since his sickness at Essex he has wandered about in search of health and finally came back to Norwich last December. The funeral was held in the Presbyterian church and was conducted by Rev's. GRIFFITH and BARTLEY, of Shenandoah. His burial in Rose Hill cemetery was conducted according to the Masonic ritual he being a member of that fraternity and having a membership in both Mountain Lodge No. 360, of Essex and Sheahbazzer Chapter No. 82, of Shenandoah. About 50 Free Masons marched in the procession to the cemetery, and of those residing near here the following acted as pall bearers: S.P. WHITE, T. J. GWYNN, J.D. BURRIGHT, D. McINTOSH, J. H. NEALE and Chas. McGHEE. The disease to which he fell victim was a peculiar form of consumption, and which has within the last few years carried off two sisters [twins Eunice & Alice LINGO] and a brother [Stephen Scott LINGO]. "Mr. CHAPMAN, the undertaker at Mr. LINGO's funeral, attended school at Lebanon at the same time, athough he was not in the same class. Thus we never know when we part from friends, when, where nor under what circumstances we will meet them next."

OBIT: The Obituary of Chas. B. LINGO More Fully Given.
Charles B., son of Mr. and Mrs. Gideon LINGO, was born in Belmont county, Ohio, Aug. 4, 1868 and died at his home at Norwich, Iowa, May 6, 1895, aged 26 years, 9 months and 2 days. The deceased was the youngest of a family of thirteen children, four of whom graduated from Lebanon, Ohio and have heretofore held prominent positions in this county as instructors, principals, etc. Chas. B., the subject of this sketch, came to this county some seven years ago. He became acquainted and was married to Miss Carrie BAINARD, of Beloit, Iowa, in 1890. He has been a strong worker in both educational and religious circles. As an instructor it is justly said that he had few if any equals. He took an active interest in Sabbath schools and was so adapted to the work that he worked with ease under any system of Christian thought that it was his lot to fall in line with. For a number of years he was superintendent of the Sunday Schools at the various places where he resided. He was a very reserved man, having but little to say except where it might be of some profit. He had a strong mind and a wonderful memory. He has been known to deliver orations upon national and memorial occasions, without pre-meditation, which were pronounced equal to anything that might have been given by more experienced and older heads. He belonged to the fraternity of Free Mason, and was a member of Lodge No 360 at Essex, also member of Charter Lodge No 82 at Shenandoah, Iowa.
The funeral took place on the day following his decease, attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends. His parents (who reside in Ohio if we have that right understanding) and a brother in California were unable to be present. The services were conducted by Rev. GRIFFITH of the Baptist church and Rev. BARTLEY of the M. E. Church, who rendered a touching discourse from 2d Cor., 5, 1. A fair delegation of Free Masons attended the funeral services from Essex, whose forces were largely increased by the Shenandoah members as the procession neared the Rose Hill cemetery at that place, where the last tribute of respect was shown to a worthy man and the remains tenderly laid to rest. The pall bearers were, P. S. WHITE, D. McINTOSH, J. H. NEELY, J. D. BURRIGHT, T. J. GWYNN and Charles McGHEE."
