In 1922 Mr. Whitney professed faith in Christ under the preaching of Brother L. O. Cliburn and united with New Bethel Baptist Church. Later he moved membership to Durham Springs Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful member till death.
On November 27 1927, Robert and Amanda Whitney were united in marriage and to this union were born two children, James Robert Whitney and Mary Katherine Ogles. Mrs. Whitney and children survive. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Clarence Sexton, and three grandchildren, Teddy and Laura Ogles and Stanley Whitney.
"Bob" as Mr. Whitney was affectionately known to his friends, was a retired farmer and highway employee. He was a good citizen of his community and a devout christian man. He was a deacon of his church who let his Christian light shine out of the church as well as in the church. Seldom were the doors of his church open that he was not there in worship service.
The family lost a loving father and husband, the community an upright citizen, and church a devoted member. We will miss him very much, but our loss is heaven's gain. Written by Leon Whitlow
