Marjorie A. Anson Smith, 77, Indianapolis, died Tuesday (Oct. 31, 2000) at Community Hospital South, Indianapolis.

Mrs. Smith taught home economics from 1949 to 1985 at several Indianapolis-area schools, including Southport High School and Perry Meridian High School. She was named Indiana Home Economics Teacher of the Year in 1979. She earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics from Purdue University in 1949 and a master’s degree in home economics from Indiana University in 1962. She was a member of University Heights United Methodist Church, was a volunteer guide at the Eiteljorg Museum, and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, all in Indianapolis. She was also a member of several professional organizations.

She was born March 22, 1923, in Huntington, to Allan and Opal Hite Anson. She married Herbert S. Smith Feb. 5, 1944, in Huntington. He survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Rena Humerickhouse of Goshen; three sisters, Margaret Burris of Huntington, Bonnie Lauck of Glendale, Ariz., and Barbara Hoover of Monticello; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alan Anson and Eldon T. Anson.

Calling is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 7602 Madison Ave., Indianapolis. Additional calling will be held from 10-11 a.m. Friday at University Heights United Methodist Church, Indianapolis, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. Todd Outcalt and Rev. Wilma Allen will officiate at the service.

Entombment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis.
