Mary (May) Egan was born in Creggan, Ferbane, Kings County (Offaly) to John Egan and Mary Farrell.

Her mother died shortly after she had her 3rd child, and May went to live with her maternal grandmother nearby. Her father remarried and 10 more children, for a total of 13 siblings all together (including herself.)

May emigrated to New York about 1909 and lived with her uncle James Farrell at least some of the time until her 1919 marriage.

After she and John Tierney were married at Holy Cross RC Church (42d Street, NYC) they lived with her uncle James Farrell in the upper west side of Manhattan and later moved out with him to his house(s) in Jamaica, Queens.

John had 3 children from his previous marriage (Annie, John Jr. and Sabina) having lost his first wife, Sabina Gilroy, and one child, Winifred in the Spanish Influenza epidemic of 1918.

Mary had a son Michael in 1927.

After his death, her uncle James left her the homes in Jamaica in 1938, which later she sold in the 1950s. At that time she moved slightly east to Cambria Heights in Queens. Several years later, she sold that home and moved in with son Michael and family in Elmont, NY and lived there until her death.
