Daniel was the 2nd of 12 children born to Stephen Buffum and Hannah Sewel (or Weed).
Two of Daniel's brothers, William Gilbert & Hiram Barney headed west toward Yamhill Co on the Oregon Trail in 1845 & 47; Hiram died & was buried on the trail in ID.
Another brother, Jonathan had a son, Abel Cooper who headed west to CA in 1890, settling with several of his children in Shasta Co.

Cornelia M Buffum Call 1827-Bef. 1860 (Her son George R Call lived with Daniel and Hannah after her death, and he was given a share of Daniel's estate in his will.)

It appears that Daniel lived in Fulton Co, IL for most of his married life. He enlisted in the War of 1812 w. a NY Cavalry unit & later w. the NY Dragoons.

He applied for bounty land in 1850 & received 40 acres in 1853.

There is a military marker beside his grave which reads: "Daniel Buffum NY Pvt, Capt Ithiel Stone's Co, 1st Regt, 2nd Brig, 3rd Div, Cav, War of 1812 from June 11 1814 to June 14, 1814."
