During his formative years, Ernest and his cousins were raised by their grandmother, the late Mother Mary Brown Blacksher of Lockett Memorial C.O.G.I.C. (Detroit, Michigan), the Family Matriarch. He had a very pleasant and fun-loving childhood, and was very easy-going to get along with.
Ernest attended the Detroit Public Schools. Shortly after completing his formal education, Ernest decided to join the Navy in 1942. He served his Country well during World War II and was honorably discharged after his tour of duty. He felt duty bound, so Ernest enlisted in the Naval Reserves. He was called back to full service during the Korean Conflict of the 1950's.
During his adult working life, Ernest worked for the United States Post Office, but retired from the Chrysler Motor Company in 1973 after 27 years of service.
