He came to Wilson County, Tennessee, before 1807 with his Father who settled 6 miles southeast of Lebanon, Tennessee. In 1825 he came to Henderson County, Tennessee and was one of the commissioners appointed to lay off the town of Lexington, the county seat of Henderson County. In 1827, he came to Williamson County and owned land at what later became known as Bingham, Tennessee, located about 7 miles southwest of Franklin On 3 October 1827 he married AMELIA HALEY who was born in Halifax County, Virginia on 7 November 1808 and died 18 May 1872. She is also buried in the Hillsboro Cemetery. She was the daughter of Richard Haley and Mildred Hunt Haley of Virginia. Richard and Mildred Haley are buried in the William J. Bingham Cemetery in Williamson County according to information in the Elizabeth Pigott Bible.
