He and wife Sarah left the Bingham community near Hillsboro, Williamson County, Tennessee for Terrell, Texas. Shortly after 1876 and engaged in the manufacture of farm wagons for a while. It was said by some who used the wagons that they were the best wagons ever made. He turned his interest over to a brother-in-law and moved to Summit County, Texas near Tyler, where they spent most the remainder of their lives on the farm at Swan.
