Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Corporal in Company K, 39th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Petersburg, Virginia on April 2, 1865. His citation reads simply “Gallantry as color bearer in the assault on Fort Gregg”. His Medal was issued on May 12, 1865.
