She was born on February 23, 1932 in Camden, New Jersey, the daughter of Hugo and Marion (Edmunds) Deehan.
Jean had an avid interest in current events and remained politically active and a supporter of the Democratic Party until the end of her life.
She was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Clarence "Ed" Linnell, in 1998.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Gates, of Anacortes, Washington; son, Vince Linnell, of Mount Vernon, Washington; daughters, Sharon Suleta, of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, and Judy Suleta, of Mountlake Terrace, Washington. Jean is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah, Vincent, Christopher, and Daniel.
A private graveside inurnment will be held at the Green Hills Burlington Cemetery on Wednesday, August 25, 2010. A memorial service in honor of Jean will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Avon United Methodist Church, with Pastor Richard Hargis officiating.
Memorials in Jean's name may be made to The Friendship House, 1008 South 3rd Street, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
