Mrs. Althea Carter Brooks, 65, of Columbus passed on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Columbus Hospice House. Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2010 at Fourth Street Baptist Church. Dr. J. H. Flakes, Jr. will officiate, according to Sconiers Funeral Home, 836 5th Ave., Columbus. Mrs. Brooks was born December 27, 1944 in New Orleans, LA, the daughter of Envil and Erma Collins Carter. She was a member of the Fourth Street Baptist Church and was an LPN. Survivors include her committed husband, James Brooks of Columbus; a daughter, Jammie (Perry) Westmoreland of Fairburn, GA; a brother, Donald Envil Carter of New Orleans, LA; two sisters, Matail Lawhorn and Delores Carter, both of New Orleans, LA; two grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Fourth Street Baptist Church, One Columbus, and Haiti Relief Fund/ Red Cross.
