Murl died at Heather Manor of pneumonia on Saturday, June, 5, 2004 at the age of 99 years, 6 months and 12 days. A funeral Service will be held at Highland Park Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2004. The family will greet friends at Highland Park Funeral Home 3500 6th Ave., from 3:30 to 6:30 on Wednesday evening.

Murl was born to Malcom and Amelia Williams Lane in Lineville, Iowa. She moved to Des Moines following high school and attended Capital City Commercial Collage. She was a credit manager for Mandelbaum Department Store.

When her first husband, Glenn Allen died in 1958, she returned to work for Frankels Clothing Co. in Park Fair. There she worked until retirement with her longtime and best friend, Frances DeGooyer. Her special joys included gardening, crocheting, knitting and reading.

Murl was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years. She was active on the Board of Deacons, Choir, Circle and Women's Association. She remained an active church member until six years ago. After becoming home bound she had a great comfort in watching the Christian Broadcasting Channel.

Murl is survived by son Robert E Allen, (Cathy) of Mesa AZ; daughter Begie A Hefner (Frederic Miller; five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Glenn D Allen (1958) and Theodore Wiles (1987); brother Everett Lane; sisters, Grace Knapp and Kathleen Browning; daughter in law Mary K Allen, and son in law, Robert E Hefner.
