Elgelina was the daughter of Henry and Christina VanDusen.

Her first marriage was to Mayberry Imel in 1842. He died in 1849 in Jennings County, IN. They had two children: Mary Jane Imel, married 1) William Knickerbocker and 2) Joseph Sharp; and Malissa Emaline Imel, married Augustus Perry Traver.

Elgelina's second marriage was to Charles Baldwin in 1851. Charles Baldwin had five children by a previous marriage: Manerva, b. c1844, Ervin, b. c1845 and Mary J., b. c1846, Nancy J., b. c1848, Malissa, b. c1850.

Charles and Elgelina had seven children: Henry (or Harvey), b. c1854, Mary Etta, b. c1856, Ceola, b. c1858, Ella Jane, b. c1864, Rebecca J., b. c1866, Lucinda B., b. c1868, and Margaret, b. c1872.
