The following bio by Rebecca Wright #47388083

Joseph Wright was born to Sgt. Samuel & Elizabeth (Burt) Wright on June 2, 1657 in the early settlement of Northhampton, Massachusetts. He was the second oldest of eight children. In 1671, when Joseph was 14 years old, his father purchased land and moved the family to what would become Northfield, Massachusetts. This area was originally known as Squakheag by the Nipmuck Indian tribe. They lived in peace with the surrounding Indian tribes until early in 1675 when the "King Phillip's War" broke out. In September of 1675 while he and his father, Sgt. Samuel Wright were working in the flax fields near their settlement they were attacked by several local tribes and his father along with 4 other men were killed. Joseph was injured but survived. Within a few days of the attack the entire settlement left and returned to Northampton.

When Joseph was 22 years old he married Ruth Sheldon. Ruth Sheldon was 16 years old at the time of their marriage in Northampton and was the daughter of Isaac & Mary (Woodford) Sheldon. Joseph & Ruth had five children: Joseph Wright born in 1681; Ruth Wright born in 1687; James Wright born in 1689; Samuel Sheldon Wright born in 1693; and Benoni Wright born in 1696. Joseph Wright was a farmer and an elder in his church in Northampton.

Joseph Wright passed away at the young age of 39 on February 16, 1697. Joseph's father, Sgt. Samuel Wright was killed just ten days before his last child was born and so was named Benoni Wright. It was a sad coincidence, that like his father before him, Joseph's last child too was born after his death. The name Benoni is a boy's name and is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Benoni is "son of my sorrow".

Joseph's widow, Ruth Sheldon Wright would remarry several years later to Samuel Strong.
