Services for Astrid Baker will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 20, 2010 at Horseshoe Drive United Methodist Church with Reverend Tracy McKenzie officiating. Burial will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria.
Pallbearers will be Craig Nall, Dylan Hopkins, Dalton Hopkins, Ricky Nall, Jim Holmes and Dr. Champ (Lee) Baker, III. Honorary pallbearer will be Jim Travis.
Mrs. Baker, 89, of Alexandria passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Rapides Regional Medical Center, Alexandria.
She was a member of Horseshoe Drive United Methodist Church of Alexandria. She was a volunteer for the Furher Branch of the Rapides Parish Library. Mrs. Baker worked as a case worker for 30 years for the State of Louisiana. Mrs. Baker was a World War II Army Nurse for the Fourth Service Command Finney General Hospital, Thomasville, Georgia.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Champ Baker, Sr.; parents, Gustave and Pauline Lindstrom Hiie; sister, Helga Jennings.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Dr. Champ Baker, Jr. and wife, SueAnne of Columbus, Georgia, Russell Baker and wife, Kathie of Lorena, Texas; daughter, Susanne Nall and husband, Malcolm of Alexandria; grandchildren, Wade Hopkins, Craig Nall, Ricky Nall, Michelle Cline, Dr. Champ (Lee) Baker, III, Kate Baker, Sarah Baker, Brandy Thorning, Emily Chappell, Cassie Baker; great grandchildren, Dylan Hopkins, Dalton Hopkins, Scarlet Hopkins, Matthew Nall, Mason Nall, Emma Thorning, Champ (Lee) Baker, IV, Jennifer Nall, Corey Nall, Kenzie Cline.
Friends may call Friday at Horseshoe Drive United Methodist Church from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
