WOMAN HURT IN CRASH DIES
Rocky Mountain News (CO) - Thursday, July 7, 2005
A woman who was injured in a hit- and-run accident this week died Wednesday at St. Anthony North Hospital.
Alicia Arana, 26, was taken to the hospital early Tuesday after the pickup truck she was a passenger in was struck by an SUV, ejecting her and two of her three children who were also riding in the vehicle.
Melissa Arana said her sister's organs would be donated as she had requested.
Arana's common-law husband, Jesus Manuel Cruz, 29, was driving the pickup north on Federal Boulevard about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday when he rear-ended a silver Dodge Intrepid and continued on. The car chased after the pickup and caught up to it at Sheridan Boulevard and West Cedar Avenue. Police said the Intrepid then sideswiped the pickup, sending it into oncoming traffic where it was hit by a stolen Ford Excursion.
The Intrepid and Excursion fled the scene. Police said the Excursion was later found abandoned.
Denver police spokeswoman Virginia Lopez said the driver of the Intrepid has been contacted by investigators. Police were still looking for the driver of the Excursion Wednesday and are asking that anyone with information contact Denver police.
