Funeral service for Lois Schumann, 91, Fletcher, will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Fletcher First Baptist Church with Reverend A.L. Swagerty, officiating. Burial will follow at the Fletcher Cemetery under direction of the Fletcher Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Schumann passed away Monday, May 2, 2011, in Marlow.
Lois Elizabeth (Bridges) Schumann was born May 2, 1920, in Poteau, OK, to Buster and Katie (McCafferty) Bridges. Lois attended Elgin schools until the 6th Grade when she left school to pick cotton and take care of her younger siblings. Lois married Fred Schumann on January 31, 1942 in Fletcher, OK. The couple was married for 53 years when Fred passed away on March 11, 1995. She was a member of the Fletcher First Baptist Church for over 70 years. Lois worked at the local grocery stores until becoming a caregiver for some of the local elderly families. She enjoyed making and was famous for her fried pies, sewing, making blackberry jam, and helping at the flower shop. Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be missed dearly.
She is survived by 2 sons: Butch Schumann and his wife Jane of Del Rio, TX and Rickey Schumann and his wife Karla of Apache; 1 brother, Clois Bridges and his wife Sally of Weatherford, TX; 6 grandchildren: Debbie Davis, Cami Cappuccio, Lisa Austin and her husband Chad, Rodney Schumann, Jena Albright, and Rikki Schumann; 9 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buster and Katie Bridges; her husband Fred Schumann; 7 brothers: Billy, Herschel, Hilden, Charles, Edwin, Donald Ray, and Clifton Bridges; 3 sisters: Lucille Cable, Hazel Love, and Ruby McAbee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society of Oklahoma, 6525 N. Meridian Ave. Ste. 110 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73116.
