Rev. William Ratliff Sr. was born on 6 October 1762, in Virginia, British Colonial . He married Mary Margaret Hinson in 1794, in Green, Kentucky. He died on 2 July 1816, in Barren, Kentucky , and was buried in , at the time, Center , Barren, Kentucky. Barren was founded 1798. Metcalfe would be founded 1860, taking some of Barren. Now, after 1860 , land change distribution, William's grave site is Metcalfe.

William was a private in Captain Daniels Trigg's Company from Montgomery County, Virginia during the Revolutionary War in 1781

William was one of the early preachers in Green River Association. He was ordained to the Baptist ministry at Blue Spring church, in Barren county near Hiseville, Kentucky, in 1806.

His widow Mary Margaret, married Levi Blunt and they moved to Mason/Menard counties Illinois about 1834. Mary's parents are unknown.

1828 court document reference, from August County VA, for Margaret, now Blount, formerly married to William Ratliff, and referring to Stephen Ratliff, as handling William's estate. Stephen was assigned the upbringing of his four youngest siblings when his mother said she wished to be relieved of their responsibility.

William named a son Jordan (m Lavinia Rowland), b 1810, died 1840 , and Williams son , James , named a son Jordan (m Nancy Bradley) , b 1821 died 1902. The 1810 Jordan was Uncle 1821 Jordan.,

WILLIAM RATLIFF was one of the early preachers in Green River Association. He was ordained to the ministry at Blue Spring church, in Barren county, in 1806. He was immediately called to the pastoral care of this church, and served it some ten or a dozen years, when he was called to his reward. He had the reputation of being a good, faithful man. It is regretted that so little is now known of him. Some of his posterity still live around old Blue Spring

BLUE SPRING (1799)

Blue Spring Church was organized in 1799 in what is now Metcalfe County (but at the time it was in Barren County). The first pastor was Elder Elijah Summers, who served in that capacity until 1806. Elder William Ratliff then served, until 1814.

ordained minister of the regular Baptist and performed several marriages in
Barren County before his death in 1816. His widow Margaret,married Levi Blount and they
moved to Mason/Menard counties Illinois about 1834. Most of William and
Margaret's children moved to Missouri - James, Jordon, Jonathan, Mary, wife of
Richard Bradley, and William. Stephen stayed in Barren & Metcalf County
KY and Alexander moved to Illinois.

6 Feb 1828 in Barren Co. Kentucky. Right about 1830, they moved to Menard/Mason Illinois.

She wished to be relieved of the responsibility of infants[infants: age 0-14] William, Jonathan, Jordon, and Alexander in a deed dated February 1828 (book L Page 226). This was an agreement between her and her oldest son, Stephen, and it states that she is the widow of William Ratliff deceased .
