WASHOUGAL – A service will be 2
p.m. Thursday for Edgar H. Bates, a
James River Corp. paper mill employee
who died Saturday. He was 40.
Mr. Bates, a Vietnam veteran,
was born Oct. 19, 1946, in Durant, Okla.,
and last resided at 332 19th St.,
Washougal. He had lived in that city
since 1969.
Survivors include his widow,
Sylvia Bates of Washougal; a son, Eddie
Doss Bates of Portland; a daughter,
Stephanie Lynn Bates of Portland; a half
brother, Jimmy Smith of Garden Grove,
Calif.; and four sisters, Mary Batten of
Camas, Barbara Stump of Washougal,
Eunice Walcher of Camas and Vicki
Menefee of Seattle.
The Rev. S. E. Smith will
officiate at the service at Evergreen
Staples Funeral Chapel at 4700 N. E, St.
Johns Road. Burial will be in Fern
Prairie Cemetery.
