Ira R. Allen, 83, of Port Royal RR1, died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at his home. Born Dec. 24, 1916, in Honey Grove, he was a son of the late Furman A. Allen and Carrie (Neeley) Allen McCullough. His wife, S. Eileen (Haines) Allen, whom he married May 1, 1936, survives. Also surviving are: children, Harold E. Allen and Stephen Lew Allen, both of Port Royal RR1, Robert C. Allen, McAlisterville, Nelson R. Allen, Montoursville, Mrs. Frank (Heidi) Pannebaker Jr., Saxton, and Mrs. Chet (Nancy) Elder, Bethany Beach, Del.; a brother, George A. Allen, Lewistown RR3; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired trackman having worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 39 years.He was a member of the Honey Grove Methodist Church, Honey Grove.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday January 9, at the Matamoras Methodist Church, Port Royal RR1, with the Rev. Frank J. Swartz officiating. Interment was at the convenience of the family in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.There was no public viewing.
