Dan Brooks Sharp, age 72, of Northport, AL, died Sept. 1 4, 2009 at home. Services were held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009 at Northridge Baptist Church with Dr. Al Long and Rev. Brad Smith officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home directing.
He was preceded in death by his parents Malcom and Ocie Sharp, and his brothers, Jack Sharp and Kenneth Sharp.
Survivors include his wife Donna W. Sharp of Northport, his daughter Katherine Kirkpatrick of Gallatin, TN; his son Michael Bruce Sharp of San Antonio, Texas, his sister Geraldine Fluker (Milton) of Apopka, Fla.; his brother, Harley D. Sharp (Mary) of Erin, Tenn.; and his grandchildren, Christopher Powers (Lee), Daniel Mitchell, Ashley Mitchell, Michael Mitchell, Dominique Sharp, Desiree Sharp, Michael Bruce Sharp, Jr., and Destinie Sharp.
Mr. Sharp was born June 10, 1937 in Petersburg, Tenn., later moving to Madison County, Ala. He graduated from Hazel Green High School in 1955 and after serving four years in the United States Air Force, went to work for the federal government as a missile electronics instructor and supervisor. He retired after 37 years and he and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motor home. They enjoyed many years of following University of Alabama football and baseball in the motor home, and in 2005 they decided to move to the Tuscaloosa area to be near their passion, the University of Alabama. Mr. Sharp was a member of Northridge Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Jim Williams, Winford Turner, Joe Wheeler, Brian Sharp, Jody Meagher and James Fluker.
Honorary pallbearers were Justin Turner, Cody Turner, Kevin Turner, Daryl Williams, members of Northridge Baptist Church, Dr. David Hinton, Dr. Steve Lovelady, nurses and staff of Alacare, and a host of nieces and nephews.
