Elizabeth Irene Ray Sunday, 92 widow of the late Rufus Franklin Sunday passed away at her home Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was born April 20, 1918 in Piney Grove, Fla., the daughter of Daniel Duncan Ray and Julia Catherine McLendon Ray. Most will remember Sunday in her longtime association in the operation of her and her husband's business, Sunday's Store, a Walton County landmark. Sunday's life was consumed with her love for her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren for whom she cooked and sewed and quilted, yet she still found time to enjoy the beauty of nature by working in her flower garden. She is pre-deceased by her husband, and nine siblings, Byrant, Curtis, Myles, Grady Lee, Grant, Murdock, Ethel Mae, Iris and Ruth.
Among survivors are her sons, W.F. Sunday and wife Brenda of Myakka City, Fla., Zane W. Sunday and wife Elaine of Glendale, Fla.; her daughters, Wilma Clark of Tallahassee, Fla., and Vivian Wilson and husband Dewey of Freeport, Fla.; her grandchildren, Jesse and wife Beth, Sandra and husband Sammy, Jacqulyn, Stan and wife Tammy, Heather and husband George, Jason and wife Jessica, Robby, and Brett and wife Robin. Her sisters-in-law, Winnie Ray of Pensacola, Fla., Murtis Sunday of Zolfo Springs, Juanita Laird, Esther Sunday, Maude Sunday all of Glendale. Eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Memorials may be made in Sunday's memory to Garden Memories, Post Office Box 668, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435 or Covenant Hospice or to Gideons. A visitation service was held Monday, Aug. 16, 2010 at the funeral home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010 at 10 a.m. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Reverend John Knopes officiating. Burial followed in Cluster Springs Cemetery.
