Retired Physician
Dr. Charles S. Crandall, 90, retired physcian, surgeon and stock breeder, died yesterday in his home 17 Prospect. He had been in poor health for some time. Dr. Crandall was born Dec. 24, 1858 in Leonardsville, a son of the late Hiram S. and Frances A. Sisson Crandall.
After attending district school he attended New Berlin Academy. In 1882 he was graduated from the medical department of New York University. He practiced his profession first for two years in Leonardsville and then five years in Sherburne.
From 1889 to 1907 he practiced in Utica and then went to New York to practice for five years. Returning to Utica in 1912, he continued practice here until about 1934, when he retired. He joined Sherburne Lodge 444 F&AM and continued that membership until his death.
Dr. Crandall was fond of horses and generally owned several. At one time he owned a farm south of the city and there he devoted some time to raising blooded cattle. He had been a member of the state and county Holstein - Friesian Associations. He attended Calvary Episcopal Church. Dec. 29, 1885 he married Miss Ada M. Harwood in Sherburne. He also leaves two children, Lee S. Crandall, New York and Miss Frances R. Crandall, Utica: a granddaughter, Mrs. Slyvia Crandall Dudley, Bronxville and two nephews, Frank L. Kellogg, Utica, and Adrian Hawkins, Burlington Flats.
Funeral services will be private at 11 a.m. Monday from the home with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.
