Joseph Rodrigues, Jr., 83, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital, after a brief illness. He was the husband of M. Lucy (Bello) Rodrigues, married 60 years this past November 6th; and son of the late Joseph and Alice (Picanso) Rodrigues, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of New Bedford and a communicant of St. Mary Church where he had ushered at the 4 PM Mass on Saturdays for many years. He was a WW II Navy Veteran and served aboard the Minesweeper USS Auk and also took part in the Normandy Invasion.

He was formerly employed by Continental Screw for 34 years and for the City of New Bedford Water Dept. at Quitticus for 4 years; after his retirement he worked for Tremblay Bus Co. and as a Security Guard at Acushnet Co. Plant II. He enjoyed serving as a 'fiestero' at the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament; in his leisure he enjoyed bowling and he was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and most of all he loved his pet Shih Tzu 'Fergie.'

Survivors include his wife; his son Dr. Kevin Joseph Rodrigues of New Bedford; six brothers: Edward 'Pee Wee' Rodriques & his wife Mary, Julio Rodrigues & his wife Rita, Luiz Rodriques , Alfred Rodrigues & his wife Marcella, all of New Bedford; and Roy Rodrigues & his wife Lydia of Wareham and Clement Rodriques and his wife Beverly of Lakeville; five sisters: Alice Rodericks of New Bedford, Roselia Rodriques and Mary Marchant both of Fairhaven, Laura Souza and her husband George of Acushnet and Beatrice Silva and her husband Eduardo of Plymouth; many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Antonio 'Blondie' Rodriques and Margarita Coutinho.
