Genevieve (Gene) Niez 87, passed away on August 8, 2010. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 58 years, Ed Niez.

She is survived by son, Bill Niez; daughter-in-law, Michele; four grandsons, Michael, Stephen, Joseph and Danny of Fairfax, VA, and a daughter, Mary Niez of San Diego. Also survived by the last of a family of eight children, a sister, Ann (Walt) Leitz of Eau Claire, Michigan; many nieces, nephews, relatives and devoted friends.

After Gene made a 54-day Rosary Novena to the Blessed Mother, she met Ed at the beautiful Trianon Ballroom in Chicago where Lawrence Welk was playing. They married on July 24, 1948. (Ed died November 15, 2006.) They moved to Tucson in 1956 and joined St. Joseph's Parish where Gene was active in the Blue Army, St. Joseph Rosary Makers, Altar and Rosary Society's Card Party, Parish Fiesta, Tuesday Family Prayer Group, Fifth Saturday church cleaning group, the Third Thursday Prayer Group at the Benedictine Convent, and furnishing the book rack in the vestibule of the church. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary and Deanery of Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and prison ministry.

Friends may call on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Parish, 210 S. Craycroft Rd., with burial to follow at Our Lady of Desert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Masses be offered for Gene.
