Gary Dale Danner was born to Thomas Gilchrist and Anna Ruth McIntyre Danner. Like his father before him, Gary was a very talented artist. He also was a successful artisan in the field of Gymnastics in high school and college. His early death at the age of 19 was caused by a drunk driver just east of Carmi on Routes 14/1, on the curve that is near the old drive-in movie theater. Gary was sitting in the "suicide" seat up front between the driver and another passenger in 1957 which was before seat belts or head rests. The drunk was driving west toward Carmi and crossed the center line striking the on-coming car in which Gary was riding. Gary was the only one killed in that accident and he died of internal injuries. The boys in the car with Gary were college students home for the weekend. The killing took place on Sunday afternoon the 17th and he died the next day in the early morning hours. Gary's body is buried at Garden of Memories, aka White County Memorial Garden. At the time of his death, he had a very special friend in Neta Corbin, his girlfriend in high school. Gary attended Carmi Township High School, Carmi, Illinois.
