William Hansen obituary

William was born on Oct. 11, 1929, in Fergus Falls to James and Damie (Steafel) Hansen. William moved to Wadena in 1949 and purchased the farm where he had lived his entire life.

They farmed for many years but stopped farming to start an excavating business known as Bill Hansen and Sons Excavating. As a second business and a dream fulfilled, they started Animal Acres Zoo. They operated the business for 25 years, their zoo becoming the second largest in the state. When William developed heath problems, they sold the animals from the zoo. Then William opened Bill's Guns and More and operated that business and started slowing down with his excavating business. William loved trapping and hunting in his younger years. But, most of all, he loved fishing. He was a member of the Staples Seventh Day Adventist Church. He is survived by five sons: William E. Hansen of Wadena, Dick (Julie) Hansen of Ooltewah, Tenn., Ted (Kerry) Hansen, address unknown, Dan (Audrey Hansen of Wadena, and Jim (Sara) Hansen, address unknown; three sisters: Fern Hovelsrud of Detroit Lakes, Mary Alice Elder of Oregon, and Serena Howard of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; Genevieve on Dec. 18, 2004, son, Donald; two brothers: Paul and Jim; four sisters: Olga, Margaret, Inez, and Edna; and his very special friend Speedy, an English Bulldog that never would leave his bed side once William got sick. Visitation: Two hours prior to service Service: Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Park Rapids Seventh Day Adventist Church Clergy: Rev. John Morrison Burial: Green Valley Cemetery located on family farm Funeral home: Bielema Family Funeral Home in Wadena
