19 June 1968: A retired Bethlehem Steel Corporation employee and active member of city and state firemen's associations, Raymond E. (Shorty) Anspach, 311 W. Church St., Annville, died this morning at 5:30 in the Lebanon Valley General Hospital after a lingering illness. He was 84. A former resident of 530 E, Lehman St., he was born Nov. 9, 1883, a son of the late John and Sophia Anspach. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lily R. Behney Anspach, Oct. 23, 1964. Anspach was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, the Retired Employees Club, the Lincoln Republican Club, Lebanon Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Lebanon County Firemen's Association and the State Firemen's Association. In addition, he served for 36 years as treasurer of the Washington Fire Company, which he helped found, and for 15 years in the same capacity for the City Firemen's Relief Association. He was a bricklayer for Bethlehem Steel. He was a charter member of the Washington Playground Association. Assessor of the Ninth Ward for 12 years, he also served for many years as a committeeman for the Republican Party. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Catherine Boyer, Mrs. Harry Schauer and Mrs. Charles Habecker, all of Lebanon; two sons, John M. Anspach, Camp Hill; and Robert W. Anspach, Lebanon; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Moore and Mrs. Anna Pond, Lebanon; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
