FUNERAL RITES CONDUCTED HERE
Mrs. Sam Barnes, Resident Nearly Half Century, Dies At Home Sunday

Funeral services were conducted at St. Mary's Catholic church in Wayne Tuesday morning at 9:30 for Mrs. Sam Barnes 80, who passed away at her home in Wayne on Sunday morning. Rev. Wm. Kearns conducted mass and burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Barnes had been failing in health for almost four years, and her condition was critical for several weeks.
Mrs. Barnes whose maiden name was Miss Mary Ragan, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, August 5, 1854, and lived there until 12 years old when she moved with her folks to Davenport, Iowa. She was married to Sam Barnes September 16, 1885 at Cambridge, Ill., and the couple then came to Wayne, locating on a farm near here. They retired from the farm in 1905 and moved into Wayne their home since.
Mr. Barnes died January 4, 1931. The deceased leaves one daughter, Edith Rose, now Mrs. Levi Thompson, her son-in-law, and two grandchildren, Mary Rebecca Petit and Levi Walter Barnes Thompson.
Pallbearers were James Pile, Frank Griffith, Jr., G.G. Haller, W.M. Watson, O.G. Nelson and W.C. Shultheis.
