JOAN A. (GRUNDY) ADAMS, 74
August 11, 1935 - August 9, 2010

Joan A. Adams, 74, of LaPorte, died peacefully at 3:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, Michigan City.

She was born Aug. 11, 1935, in Canton, Ohio, to James and Esther Grundy.

Mrs. Adams owned and operated Joan's Budget Boutique in Michigan City for 20 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed her many hobbies: tole painting, quilting, reading, traveling, working in her garden and spending time with her family. She was a member of Lakeview Christian Center, where she enjoyed time spent with her church family. Joan was the true definition of a devoted mother. Someone you could count on, no matter what — no questions asked. Anyone who knew her knew that she truly had a heart of gold. Her spirit of giving lives on in all those she touched with her generosity. We were blessed to have her in our lives, and for that we are very grateful. Joan believed in the analogy: Life is like a fruit tree … The beautiful fruits of life cannot be obtained until the blossoms of excuses, doubts, fears and worries fall off. Run with it and enjoy life! Rest in peace, Mom, for a job well done. Till we meet again …

On Sept. 26, 1959, in Las Vegas, Nevada, she married Robert L. Adams. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2007.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert "Bobby" Depner; and a brother, Jerry Grundy.

Survivors include her two sons, Kristopher (Kim) Depner of Chariton, IA, and Jess (Anne) Adams of Michigan City; former daughters-in-law, Dian (Robert) Poole of Macon, MO, and Alicia Powell of Michigan City; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Elizabeth, Jessica, Mary, Cody, Ryan, and Robby Depner, her special buddy; four great-grandchildren, Zac, Sebastian, Mara and Keegan; one brother, James (Rita) Grundy of Banning, CA; and one sister-in-law, Flo Grundy of Centerville, IA.

A memorial gathering to celebrate her life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Pastor Lorne Hodum officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the service. Cremation will take place and private burial of ashes will be in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
