Marvin Pennington Sr, 71, of Cow Creek, died Thursday at home after an extended illness.
He was born June 15, 1925, at Pine Creek, a son of the late Lewis Barney and Minnie Lea [sic, Lee] Blevins Pennington Ritchie.
He was a retired salesman for Pepsi-Cola Bottling in Logan, an Army veteran of World War II, and was of the Baptist faith.
Pennington was also preceded in death by his first wife, Georgia Arzella Sizemore Pennington; one son, Paul David Pennington; three brothers, James Grady Pennington, Charles Ray Pennington, and Levi Harrison Ritchie, and stepfather, George Ben Ritchie.
Surviving are his wife, Donna Lorraine Perry Pennington; four sons, Marvin Beecher Jr., Stephen Dale, Daniel Roy, and Joseph Ray Pennington, all of Cow Creek; six daughters, Arzella Mae Hatfield of Fellsmere, Fla., Katherine Lea Dickinson of Ocoee, Fla., Patricia Ann Seavey and Mary Marie Carpenter, both of Tallahassee, Fla., Carol Jean Nunley of Cow Creek, and Norma Sue Klinger of East Lafayette, Ind.; five brothers, Delmer Pennington, Claude Ritchie, and George Lee Ritchie, all of Big Creek, Lester Frank Pennington of Cow Creek, and Robert Pennington of Michigan; one sister, Evelyn [sic] Mae Hughes of Cow Creek; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Slater-Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Homer Mahone officiating. Burial will follow at the Farley Family Cemetery at Cow Creek.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Today at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Nunley, Randall Seavey, Ray Hatfield, John Dickinson, Joseph Klinger, Manuel Estrathers, and C. David Morrison.
Slater-Gilliam Funeral Home in Switzer is in charge of arrangements.
